Don't Take a Vacation from Your Progress: How to Stay on Track with PT While Traveling
It’s May, and that means school is winding down, calendars are filling up, and summer travel is about to kick into high gear. Whether you’re heading to the beach, the mountains, or just finally checking off that long weekend road trip, it’s a season of movement. But with that movement often comes a question we hear all the time: "What do I do about PT while I’m away?"
Here’s the good news—you can absolutely keep up with your physical therapy while you’re on the go. In fact, we make it easy. At Artistry in Motion, we believe progress shouldn’t pause just because you’re catching a flight or lounging by a pool. With a little planning, you can keep your momentum going and come back from vacation feeling even stronger than when you left.
In-Person Appointments Are Gold
First things first—nothing beats the value of in-person sessions. That 1-on-1 time with your provider is where we assess, adjust, and fine-tune your plan to make sure you’re not just getting out of pain, but moving toward real, lasting change. So if you’re still in town, get those sessions in! Your body will thank you later.
But we get it—life happens. Sometimes you’re packing up for a week (or two) and won’t be able to come in. That doesn’t mean your progress has to take a back seat.
Virtual PT: Your Progress, Your Location
Thanks to the magic of modern technology, you can still meet with us even if you're on the other side of the country. We offer virtual physical therapy sessions that let us stay connected with you, coach you through your plan, and make any necessary tweaks to keep you feeling good and moving well. All you need is a little space, a device, and decent Wi-Fi.
These virtual sessions are ideal for checking in, answering questions, and making sure you’re doing your exercises correctly. It’s a great way to stay accountable and supported, even if you’re in flip-flops instead of sneakers.
Customized Travel-Friendly Plans
Before you head out on your next adventure, we work with you to create a travel-friendly version of your home program. This might include lightweight equipment (think resistance bands or a small massage ball), or even no equipment at all. We can teach you how to use what’s available to you—hotel gym benches, stairs, chairs, towels, or just your body weight.
Heading somewhere remote? No problem. We’ll give you a simple, effective routine that keeps you progressing and feeling good without needing a fancy setup. Just 10-15 minutes a day can keep your muscles firing, your joints happy, and your nervous system calm.
Make the Most of Your Environment
Vacations come with their own built-in opportunities for movement. Beach walks, pool time, hikes, morning yoga on a balcony—these aren’t just Instagram-worthy, they’re physical therapy gold. We love helping our clients get creative with their environment.
Going on a family trip? We can give you exercises you can do while the kids play or while waiting for your morning coffee. Doing a solo trip? You’ve got the perfect excuse to carve out some time to really focus on your body. PT doesn’t have to feel like a chore—especially when the scenery changes.
Don’t Let a Setback Sneak In
The truth is, skipping PT for a week or two might seem harmless in the moment, but it can sometimes lead to a bit of backsliding. Tightness, flare-ups, or re-aggravating something you worked so hard to improve—that’s what we want to help you avoid.
With our 3-C Process—CALM your pain, CORRECT the underlying cause, and CONQUER your long-term goals—we design everything to be sustainable and adaptable. And that includes your travel plans. Your progress doesn’t take a vacation unless you let it.
Vacations Are Good for the Soul—and Your Body
Let’s be real. Travel is about joy. Connection. Stepping away from the routine to rest and reset. That is good for you on every level. PT should never take away from that—it should support it. When you move better, feel stronger, and stay consistent, you get to enjoy your time away even more.
We’re not here to tell you to pack your foam roller next to your sandals (unless you want to). We just want to make sure you have what you need to come back feeling better than ever—not stiff, sore, or set back.
Let’s Make a Plan Before You Pack
If you’ve got a trip on the calendar, let us know! The earlier we know, the better we can tailor your care around it. We’ll get you set with:
-
A simple, effective travel workout
-
Equipment suggestions if needed
-
A virtual check-in option
-
Tips on how to use your environment
This way, you get to travel with confidence, knowing your progress is protected.
Keep Moving Forward—From Anywhere
We built Artistry in Motion for people who love to move, explore, push their limits, and live fully. That doesn’t stop when your PTO kicks in. Whether you’re hiking in Colorado or chilling in Santa Fe, your PT goals are still within reach.
And the best part? You’ll come home feeling like a rockstar.
